Vitamin D is quite rightly in the news on a near daily basis, with new research being published all of the time linking it to a wide range of health benefits.

Nutrivitas®Vitamin D3 (Lichen-based) offers all of the benefits of Vitamin D. It is in the form of D3 (Cholecalciferol), which is the form the body naturally produces. Nutrivitas®Vitamin D3 (Lichen-based) is of 100% plant-source, making it suitable for everyone including vegans and vegetarians.

Nutrivitas®Vitamin D3 (Lichen-based) Health Benefits:

Nutrivitas®Lichen-based vitamin d3 is means the Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) extract from 100% non-GMO lichen, which is plant-based source instead of animal source (including lanolin). So we call this product is vegan vitamin D3.

■ Source

Lichens are small unique plant species consisting of a symbiotic association of a fungus with an algae. This gives them unique attributes such as surviving in extreme climates and having the ability to grow and accumulate meaningful levels of useful nutrients, including cholecalciferol.

Lichens grow incredibly slowly so they needed to consider scalability and feasibility. We can ensure responsible and sustainable growth. The lichen used in our product has existing and ongoing use for a variety of applications including foods, drinks and decorations. As a result lichen-based vitamin d3 has been able to secure and manage a suitable source to ensure sustainability as well as quality and purity.

■ Vegan Vitamin D3 VS Vitamin D2

Traditionally, Vitamin D2 was the only non-animal source of Vitamin D and therefore the only source suitable for a range of demographics including individuals with a Vegan or Vegetarian diet.

① Vitamin D3 is approximately 87% more potent than Vitamin D2

A 2011 study published in the Clinical Journal of Endocrinology Metabolism compared Vitamin D2 to Vitamin D3 and concluded that “D3 is approximately 87% more potent in raising and maintaining serum 25(OH)D concentrations and produces 2- to 3-fold greater storage of Vitamin D than does equimolar D2.”

② Vitamin D2 "should no longer be regarded as a nutrient appropriate for supplementation"

A 2006 article published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition compared Vitamin D2 to Vitamin D3 and made a stark conclusion that due to “the inefficiency of Vitamin D2 compared with Vitamin D3, on a per mole basis, at increasing 25(OH)D”, that “Vitamin D2 should no longer be regarded as a nutrient appropriate for supplementation or fortification of foods.”

③ Nutrivitas®Vitamin D3 (Lichen-based) removes the need to use inferior Vitamin D2

Vitamin D2 chemically is not as stable as Vitamin D3, and published research clearly suggests efficacy is significantly inferior. The role of Vitamin D2 in the marketplace was traditionally to be the vegetarian alternative Vitamin D3. Nutrivitas®Vitamin D3 (Lichen-based) takes away the problem, and allows Vitamin D3 to be used in place of inferior Vitamin D2 across all applications.
